A linear function can be represented in tabular form where there is a constant rate of change between the input (x-values) and the output (y-values). In other words, the difference between successive y-values is constant.
Here is an example of a table representing a linear function.

2 | 5
3 | 7
4 | 9
In this table, for every increase of 1 in the x-value the y-value increases by 2. This constant rate of change (or slope) of 2 shows that the function is linear.
